The Russell Group got its name because its early, informal gatherings were conducted at the Hotel Russell in London's Russell Square. They have their headquarters in Cambridge. The 24 institutions that make up the UK's prestigious Russell Group all place a strong emphasis on research and provide excellent educational opportunities. Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial, and University College London are all Russell Group institutions, and they will make up four of the top 10 in the QS World University Rankings in 2022. A precursor to the current Russell Group, 1994 saw the inception of the name. As was also said, it was founded in 1994 with 17 institutions, and in the years that followed, other universities joined. It wasn't until 2007 that the group formalized into an official entity.
